In Memoriam...

The Delaware Choral Society deeply mourns the loss of W. Nolan Hearn, who passed away in 2003.  William Nolan Hearn, rehearsal and concert accompanist, was a native of Laurel, Delaware, and with the Delaware Choral Society since 1991.  He received his B.S. in music education from Delaware State College.  He studied piano under Leon Dodson, Mabel Morrison of Delaware State College, and Helene Vinograd.  Nolan was also the organist at Avenue Methodist Church in Milford, Delaware, and a teacher of elementary music in the Caesar Rodney School District.  The following is the dedication to Nolan published in our Spring 2004 concert program.  He is sorely missed.

Dedication

William Nolan Hearn

The Delaware Choral Society is dedicating our concert to our beloved friend Nolan.  We were deeply saddened by his death on Tuesday, December 9, 2003 .  Nolan has been our accompanist, pianist, organist, and harpsichordist for 11 years, adding his impeccable style and immense talent to the Choral Society concerts.  Anyone attending our concerts could sense the love Nolan had for the music we were presenting, and the truly professional style he would bring to all his performances.  When Nolan entered a room, he would light it up!  We were always ready to hear the latest jokes he would pick up each week, for he shared each and every one of them! Choral Society rehearsals were a joy with Nolan at the piano.  His style, his love of the choral classics, his exceptional talent, his cooperative professionalism, his caring friendship, and his glorious sense of humor is sorely missed.  Nolan was the epitome of the word accompanist.  He was well sought after for performing artists to enlist his talent.  Our soprano soloist, Patricia Malcolm and Nolan were such a professional team.  Their interpretations for her solo career have been such a joy, and a marriage of style and blend. Nolan has also accompanied our baritone soloist, Darrell Gray, who is also singing in dedication to Nolan today.  The Brahms Requiem, dedicated to Nolan’s memory, is truly a consolation and comfort to those of us left behind.
